Blackmagic's first Apple-oriented GPU was helpful for pros who needed more graphics power for their MacBooks, and it was tough sell when you were paying $700 for strictly middling Radeon Pro 580 graphics. the company is back few months later with somewhat better value. Its launched Blackmagic eGPU Pro melds Thunderbolt enclosure with much Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics. It's nearly twice as fast as the original, and promises up to 22X performance boost over MacBook Pro's Intel-based video. That's huge for GPU-aware creative apps, and might even make it choice for more intensive games ... Like many eGPUs, this model also doubles four USB-A ports, HDMI and 5K-capable DisplayPort connection.. eGPU Pro will be November for daunting $1,199 -- that's more expensive let alone the less Vega 56. The enclosure and Thunderbolt technology explain at least some of the premium, and there's little doubt that this is meant for media editing tasks where eGPU might pay for through faster rendering..
